Our
Faletolu, consisting of Congregational Christian Churches from Arlington, San Antonio,
and Ft. Hood, held its 2nd Annual Easter Weekend Mafutaga a Tupulaga on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12.
At
about 5:30 Saturday evening, Deacon Vaiaga'e Vaiaga'e, Failautusi for the SCCC Ft. Hood, welcomed and greeted everyone, especially
Rev. Perenise Taito, youth and Congregation from Arlington. The event was then
officially opened with a prayer service led by Rev. Menise Sasa.
The
service was followed by a moment of fellowship and dinner provided by the Ekalesia from Ft. Hood.
The
program called for presentations by the different youths from different stages of the passion of Jesus to His resurrection. However, because of some circumstances beyond our control, our brothers and sisters
from San Antonio were not able attend. They were to present the Last Supper and
the events in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The
Arlington Youth performed a moving re-enactment of the trials and crucifixion of Jesus Christ, especially with their operatic
and powerful music. They focused on how the people were so adamant to have Jesus
killed and how they even agreed to let His blood be upon them and their children.
The
evening ended with more time of fellowship as we remembered our brothers and sisters from San Antonio who could not attend
and were mourning the death of one their church members.
Easter
morning events started with the Sunrise Service hosted by the Mafutaga a Tinā from Ft. Hood with prayers offered by women
from both Ft. Hood and Arlington. The Mafutaga Tinā Ft. Hood re-enacted
the events of that first Easter morning when Salome, Mary, and Mary Magdalene visited the tomb and found the stone being rolled
away with the greatest news, "He is not here for HE HAS RISEN!" The presentation
had a emotional addition when women from both groups visited the tomb with flowers and confessing how they may have helped
crucify Christ.
Breakfast
at Ryan's, provided by the Ekalesia from Arlington, followed. It was another
great moment of visits and fellowship.
The
Easter Service started around noon with hymns by the aufaipese from both Ft. Hood and Arlington. At this service, the Autalavou from Ft. Hood performed with the theme, "What Next?" It focused on what we will do after Easter and not letting Jesus die in vain.
The
Easter Weekend Mafutaga a Tupulaga closed at about 2:00 p.m.
