Labor Day Weekend 2009 coincides with the celebration of the Arrival of the Gospel
in Samoa. Our Faletolu saw this as a perfect opportunity for a weekend of celebration and fellowship.
For 2009, we decided to celebrate the islands of Samoa and its rich and colorful history, legends, stories and folklores.
We divided the islands of Samoa in 3 groups: Manu'a Islands, Tutuila and Upolu, and the big island of Savai'i. Each autalavou
would represent an island or island group:
San Antonio - Manu'a. They sang the Vi'i o le Fu'a a Manu'a and other traditional Manu'a songs.
Arlington - Tutuila and Upolu. They presented the story of Malietoa, how the title came to be and the first to
ever hold it.
Ft. Hood - Savai'i : Ft. Hood concentrated on the story of Nafanua, the Goddess of War, and how
she foretold the arrival of of the gospel.
